OVERVIEW
Michael R. Martin joined Dunn, Martin & Miller in 2005 after graduating from Chicago-Kent College of Law and was named a full equity partner in January 2015.
Michael has extensive litigation experience in wide variety of complex civil litigation matters including breach of contract, eminent domain, zoning and land use, real estate law, forcible entry and detainer for both commercial and residential properties, contested probate matters and personal injury. He also represents corporations and individuals in contested corporate law disputes and corporation formation including non-competes, breach of fiduciary duties, shareholder derivative suits, corporate formation or reorganization and homeowner association turnover, creation and management. Michael also routinely represents corporations and individuals in real estate and business transactional matters, including , full business asset sales and purchases, industrial and commercial real estate transactions and large tract development purchases which includes annexation and property entitlement approvals. Michael also takes great pride in representing individuals and families in residential real estate purchases and sales throughout the State of Illinois which includes extensive work in the City of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. As one of the few attorneys who not only handles breach of contract and real estate law litigation but real estate transaction work,, Michael provides a unique insight for his clients looking to acquire or sell property.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Michael grew up in Naperville, Illinois, and graduated from Benet Academy. He attended DePauw University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts with a Computer Science Major; and he obtained his J.D. from the Chicago-Kent College of Law with a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law.. During law school, Michael clerked for the Illinois Attorney General in the General Law Division, focusing on prisoner litigation and worked for a small litigation firm in Chicago, Illinois, in addition to clerking at Dunn, Martin, & Miller. In 2007 Michael was appointed a Special Assistant Attorney General to represent the Illinois Department of Transportation in eminent domain litigation and was the lead trial lawyer on the acquisition of hundreds or properties for the improvement to IL Route 59 and US Route 30 in Plainfield, IL, the redesign and widening of 159th Street from I-57 to I-355, the creation of an interchange I-57 and Stuenkel Road and the improvement of the interchanges along I-55 at US Route 6 and Weber Road. In 2012, Michael was appointed as Special Assistant Attorney General to represent the Illinois Toll Highway Authority in eminent domain litigation and has also represent other municipalities and assisted property owners in eminent domain litigation. Since joining Dunn, Martin & Miller, Michael has handled complex civil litigation matters in the District Courts of Will, Cook, DuPage, Grundy and Kendall Counties; the Northern District of Illinois, U.S. District Court; and has argued before the Illinois Third District Appellate Court in Ottawa, Illinois.
PERSONAL
Michael currently resides in Hinsdale, Illinois, with his wife and two young daughters and takes great pride in coaching both of his daughters’ youth basketball and soccer teams. Michael is the eldest son of the firm’s senior partner, Michael J. Martin. Prior to law school Michael worked as a software engineer for Cyborg Systems, Inc.
